Hello beauties,
We talked about Korean skincare a few times in this blog, and the truth is that we can’t argue about the fact that no beauty routine is complete without at least one Korean skincare product.
Korean skincare has taken the beauty industry by storm, and for good reason. With a focus on gentle yet effective ingredients coupled with innovative formulations, Korean skincare products have garnered a dedicated following worldwide. From double cleansing and essence to sheet masks and cushion compacts, the Korean approach to skincare offers a wide array of products suited for various skin concerns. And the packaging is a plus, because they have the care to create packagings that are not just cute but also designed to provide seamless application.
When it comes to sunscreen, it’s no surprise that Korean formulas are one step ahead of what other brands around the world are offering. Sun protection is an important part of Korean lifestyle, Koreans are know for using sunscreen indoors and outdoors, making it the last and most important step in every K-beauty routine.
So why are people so obsessed with Korean Sunscreens?
The texture and wear! Korean sunscreens are specifically designed for everyday use, so it’s important to create products that are lightweight and easy to blend. Forget the white cast and the grassy feel, because these sunscreens are far from it.
The innovation! There are a limited list of ingredients that are allowed because FDA regulates sunscreen as a drug. So, since 1999 that FDA has not approved any new UV filters, while in Korea, the approval process is more easy since sunscreens are regulated as functional cosmetics. This doesn’t make them less secure because they still need to be approval to be safe and secure to be used.
They bring multiple benefits! Sunscreens have the goal of preventing signs of premature aging, but Korean sunscreens are also infused with ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid to help protect the skin barrier and moisturize the skin. It’s common to see sunscreens with fermented to hydrate the skin and shield it from environmental stressors. Furthermore, the innovative formulations of Korean sunscreens often incorporate natural extracts, such as green tea or lotus extract, renowned for their antioxidant and soothing properties.
They offers high Protection! When it comes to sun protection, sunscreens provides comprehensive UVB and UVA protection. While UVA protection is not mandatory in the United States, a sunscreen labeled as ‘broad spectrum’ ensures defense against both UVA and UVB rays. Moreover, Korean brands incorporate a PA (Protection Grade of UVA rays) rating system, based on a PPD (Persistent Pigmentation Darkening) test that effectively measures the protection against both types of rays. For instance, if a sunscreen has a PPD of six, it indicates that it would take six times longer for your skin to tan compared to not wearing any sunscreen.
Korean sunscreen also features higher SPF, in general. The higher the SPF, the longer the skin is protected. Typically in Korean you will find daily SPF products with 50+, while in other countries it’s most common seeing 15 to 30.
They allow better reapplying ! It’s crucial to reapply sunscreen every two hours, and in Korean skincare, sunscreens are packaged and designed for easy reapplication. There are sunscreens available in compact cushion formats with tinted coverage, SPF sprays, and powders that make reapplying a hassle-free process without worrying about ruining your makeup.
